The ACCU-SCOPE binocular stereo microscope features outstanding optical clarity, superb resolution, large fields of view and a high depth of focus.  ACCU-SCOPE stereo microscopes deliver excellent images through a combination of high-quality optics, state-of-the-art engineering, and ergonomics.

*NOTE: Users of the BNC may be required to complete onsite and/or on-demand training in order to reserve this instrument. Requirements will be shared by the lab prior to your appointment. Please reach out to us through Second Lab messages and we'll be happy to help you plan for your first booking.

Access Guideline

NOTE: Access to UC Berkeley facilities and services requires university approval which takes as little as 24 hours. First time customers on Second Lab will be prompted to complete approval requirements during checkout. We encourage you to book your 15 minute onboarding with the Second Lab team through the following link: Click here to schedule your onboarding (15 mins)!

Once approved, each user is required to complete an in-person facility training and instrument-specific training, where applicable. See listing descriptions for more details.

Lab rules

All external, non-UCB customers are required to comply with all UC visitor policies and lab rules.

What It’s Used For

Stereo microscopes are primarily used for examining samples that are opaque or too thick for traditional compound microscopy, where a three-dimensional view and a larger working distance are beneficial. They are ideal for tasks requiring manipulation or dissection of samples under magnification, as well as for detailed observation of surface topography and features. The large field of view and depth of focus allow for the inspection of larger specimens or components.

Need Help and Advice with the Equipment?

A stereo microscope, also known as a dissecting microscope, uses two separate optical paths with two objectives and two eyepieces to provide slightly different viewing angles for the left and right eyes. This arrangement produces a three-dimensional, stereoscopic visualization of the sample with a relatively large working distance. The ACCU-SCOPE stereo microscope achieves this through high-quality optics and precise optomechanical engineering, providing a magnified image with enhanced depth perception. Illumination is typically provided by external sources, often through fiber optic guides, allowing for flexible control of lighting angle and intensity (e.g., brightfield, oblique illumination).
