QB3 Cal-Cryo offers external companies the option to ship samples to our facility for preparation and set up ahead of your remote operation of the camera through open source CryoEM processing software suites. Shipping details will be provided following checkout.

Remote Cryo-Transmission Electron Microscopy (Cryo-TEM) Service

Cal-Cryo at QB3-Berkeley provides researchers with access to state-of-the-art Cryo Electron Microscopes and related tools for high resolution structural biology imaging experiments.  

The Cal-Cryo facility, housed in the basement of Stanley Hall, is led by Professors James Hurley and Steve Brohawn and began operations in February 2018. Our facility is used to collect image data of biological or soft material samples before it is processed using single particle or tomographic reconstruction methods Our staff offer consultation and training in specimen preparation, microscope operation, image acquisition, and data analysis. 

The facility’s instrumentation features automated data collection. Both single-particle micrographs and tomography tilt series can be collected.

To maintain a safe, productive, and enjoyable environment, all users of the the QB3 Cal-Cryo facility are required to follow posted lab rules.
